Kindergarten Information

Welcome to Kindergarten!

I would like to welcome you to LITH Elementary School.  We are very excited to have your child start at our school and we are eager to see the learning growth they will make this coming school year.

Please read through this web page to learn about important information that will help your family and child have a smooth transition to start Kindergarten.

Do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. We try to think of everything you may need to know, but of course, every family has great questions that we are happy to help answer.

I am very proud to serve as your child's principal and I take my responsibility to keep them safe and learning very seriously.  I love my job and enjoy getting to see our students learn and grow every day.

Who is my child's teacher this year?

Each family will receive an email in early August with instructions reminding you how you can log into your Parent Portal account and view your child's teacher.  You will have a chance to meet them at Supply Drop Off, as well as at Parent/Guardian Open House.

Where and when do they get on the bus? (K-5th)

Post cards will be sent from the D300 Transportation Department for each student. On this card, you will find your child's bus stop, their bus (route) number, and the times they need to be at their assigned bus stop.  If you have not received your post card by August 10th, please call Durham School Transportation Services at (847) 658-3262.

When your student arrives at school on the bus, they are supervised by both staff and safety patrol students who ensure they walk to the correct classroom line outside of the gym doors.  Each student stands in their classroom line and when the 7:55 AM bell rings, each class enters the school and goes directly to their classroom door.  Kindergarten teachers supervise this entrance for the first two weeks of school, then our Bus Arrival staff supervise and monitor along with our safety patrol students assigned to each kindergarten class.

Kindergarten students are assigned seats in the front of the bus closest to the driver.  We also have teacher selected 5th grade students who serve as safety patrol and sit with the kindergarten students to monitor and support as needed.  Your kindergarten student is directly supervised from the time they leave their classroom in the afternoon, until the time they enter the bus.  This ensures they are in the correct line and arrive into their assigned bus and seat.

What about lunch?

Students have the option of purchasing a school lunch, or bringing a lunch from home. During the first week of school, we have extra adult helpers that support students as they learn how to navigate the cafeteria and eat lunch with their classmates.  We will send out monthly lunch menus via email in the "Virtual Backpack" weekly email you will receive from the school.  Once the school year gets underway, we will email the lunch times for each grade and class.  Parents are welcome to come have lunch with their child.

Kindergarten Picture for Bus Safety

If you haven’t already done so, please schedule a time with the school secretary, Donna Cigrang, to have your child’s picture taken this summer and confirm their transportation details.  It takes less then two minutes to swing by school and snap a quick photo for our transportation system.  This photo is simply used by bus drivers to triple check and confirm using both name and photograph that all students are on the correct bus.  She can be reached at (847)532-6903.

  • Questions?

Please don't hesitate to call the school office if you have any questions or concerns about the start of the school year. Or come by in person and say hello!  The office staff are happy to help in any way we can. School office hours are  7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.  847-532-6900.

  • Looking for After School Care?

We have an after school program run through the Dundee Park Discrict called Circle of Friends.  They provide a fun, safe, and learning environment at LITH Elementary after school.  Click here to go directly to their website for all the needed information.

  • News from the Nurse:

Physical Examination and Immunization Forms are due prior to AUGUST 1st.

Per School Board Policy 7:100, students not meeting the Physical Examination and Immunization requirements prior to the first day of school will not be allowed to start classes.

All students entering Early Childhood for the first time and Kindergarten are required to have a current physical examination completed on the approved Illinois Department of Public Heath Form.  A current physical is one that was completed within one year of August 2016.  The parent portion on the upper back side of the form must be completed and signed.   All students must be up-to-date with the State of Illinois immunization requirements including the following:

All students entering kindergarten must show proof of receiving two doses of varicella (chickenpox).

Students with a scheduled appointment for a physical examination and/or immunizations can start school on the first day of attendance if a statement signed by the health care provider including the date of the appointment is submitted.  Students will be excluded from school if they fail to keep the scheduled appointment.

Parents or Guardians who object to examination(s) or immunization(s) on a religious exemption must present a completed Illinois Certificate of Religious Exemption form.  This form must be completed in its entirety by the parent/guardian and signed by the physician.

Immunization dates can be viewed through the Parent Infinite Campus Portal.  Physical examination forms are available in all School Health Offices and on the D300 Health Services website.

D300 together with Greater Elgin Family Care Center offer physical and immunization clinics. Please visit the D300 Health Services website for dates and locations or call 847-551-8371 for information.
